A sporting event is where “men and women come together in a collective celebration to be a part of a show”. It is an event that must encourage sharing, exchange and conviviality and provide people with an escape from day-to-day life.
The creation, organisation and management of a national or international sporting event, means taking into account many rules and restraints that often prove problematic, not least because of the large-scale financial, social and institutional implications.
The organiser has to take care of accommodation, transport, storage, accreditations, security, looking after guests, athletes and staff as well as media partners, sponsors and volunteers – all in a very condensed period of time.
The important sporting moments, such as major finals and opening and closing ceremonies, have to take place in first class stadiums where the infrastructure is adapted to international standards so that rights holders can broadcast the images.
